Fun Facts
- Did you know that Dogs don’t sweat? This is why our furry friends pant when hot. Panting is a dog’s way of cooling off, just like sweating is our way of cooling off!
- Did you know that a dog and cat’s whiskers are one of the ways that they figure out where they are? It is one of the ways that they figure out the position of their body.
Fun Facts
- Does your pet’s paws smell like corn chips? Well we asked Mango’s vet about this and he told us that Dogs have a natural smelling odor from regular bacteria and yeast that lives on their paws. He recommends that if we dont like how corn chippy his paws smell, to keep our face away from them! Lol!
- Can a cat without a tail land on their feet? Yes! That is because accoring to Nguyen, Huy, Cats have a righting reflex that allows them to correct themselves as they fall which is easier for them because they have an unusually flexible backbones and no functional collarbone!
Dogs dream just like us! Although dogs probably dream more about chasing squirrels than humans do! 🙂
Fun Facts
- Did you know that we are the only animals that shed emotional tears! This doesn't mean that our furry friends dont get sad, or cry (whimper) but they dont shed tears. Many scientists believe that shedding tears is a way of balancing ourselves which is why after a good cry we often feel better.
- Have you ever taken a really close look at your dog or cat’s nose? Well, go ahead! According to vet-organics.com, the tip of the dog’s nose is usually cool and moist because dogs have glands inside their noses that produce moisture and lubrication, The moisture allows odor stuff to stick to the dog’s nose allowing them to smell better!
- The Peruvian Hairless Dog is thought to be one of the only dog breeds that remains that is native to the Americas. So, it is not true that dogs were brought to the Americas by Christopher Columbus. There were some dogs that were native to the Americas.
Sad Facts
- According to BMC researchers, there are about 6–8 million dogs abandoned in shelters annually, half of which are euthanized (3-4 million) or put to sleep.
- According to a global coalition of animal welfare experts, there are about 362 homeless or stray animals in the world. And, unfortunately, in central america and south america, no one has a sense of how many dogs are homeless but it is thought that about 30% of animals are homeless.
- According to researchers. A stray dog only lives about 3-4 years out on the street.
